The goods
Both girls had a great time with their first real experience with trick or treating. We decided to brave the craziness of Harper Ave. where being costumed as types of livestock really did make them fit in. (For those of you not familiar with the area, this is an extremely popular place to go because the homes are all quite old and they get all done up. In fact, we overheard the bicycle cops who were keeping the street blocked off communicating with one another that Obama and his girls were soon to arrive.) The pig and bison were wide-eyed the whole time with the spooky decorations and the other kids' costumes. Their friend Chloe, who is two years older and has done this all before, kept them on task. Here they are enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Spooky Bison
Thanks to Auntie Andrea for letting us dig through her bins of handmade Halloween costumes to find ones for the girls to wear. Maeta fit into the monkey and the bison costumes but chose the bison (perhaps it was the allure of the fur?) I don't think she knew what one was because someone would ask her what she was going to be for Halloween and she'd turn to one of us parents and ask, "What is it called?" We finally went to the internet for pictures so she could see what a bison looks like. Since she saw a picture, she has not forgotten its name.

Scary Pig
Zofie was immediately taken with Auntie Andrea's pig costume when she saw it and filled its cloven hooves very nicely.

I am smiling, Ma
Andrea and Doug have designed and built a fabulous hurricane proof Victorian house with a wonderful backyard including a playyard, pool and deck area, greenhouse, and hen house. I am in awe of what they have done. If it weren't for the bugs and heat, they would have had to build a wing for us. Here they are with the kiddos on their huge wrap-around porch.

Baptismal birthday cheeseballs
The girls had a jolly good time with their cousins and were often found laughing and grinning as broadly as in this picture.

Grandma Mutz's spirit
Here Auntie Andrea and Zofie share their interest in bugs. Florida is certainly a good place to pursue this interest. This is why we only visit and do not live there.

Road Warriors - part 3
The kids handled our multi-day trips from the top of the country to the bottom and back again very well. The girls did lots of reading, drawing, and singing. Linus amused himself with his two favorite pasttimes, inserting foot/hands in mouth and his game of "see how loud my voice goes."

5 months old
We remembered to take Linus' picture right before his bedtime. Luckily, he was still in a pretty good mood. But then, he is pretty easy going most of the time anyway.
