2 Weeks Old!
The hat is there so that you have some scale for baby size. Even better, for those of you who look through the archives, I decided to do the Maeta/Phone picture with Linus (check out the difference). Granted, technology has advanced and telephones are smaller now, but still, Maeta was about the same size as the phone and Linus...well, let's just say that he dialed Grandma Christian and explained his latest theory on amygdala function.

Very cute sleeping position
Ok, we need to bleach the lap pads on his bed, but it was very cute to find the little man asleep like this.

Z&M learn Daddy's technique
You will think that I am exaggerating when I say that Amy and I have changed about 17,500 diapers since the girls were born. If you do the math, you will realize I am probably somewhat UNDER-estimating the real total. Needless to say, Z&M are wise enough to study from a master.

Asleep in my arms
Hundreds of pictures and I still can't find one that captures how Linus looks from my perspective. This gets closer, but it still does not reproduce the image in my eye as I look down at him in my arms.

1 Week Old
We made it through the first week, somewhat sleep deprived, but all-in-all pretty good. Linus lost about 10% of his birth weight (about 1 lb) before leaving the hospital, but he gained back about 6oz since we left.

First bath at home
I did most of the girls' first baths; for the past few months I have been doing most of the girls regular baths---and yet I still had to consult the instructions on how to give Linus a bath. Lack of sleep=short-term memory failure.

Singing Girls
Johnny Cash has a record with songs from his mother's hymnbook. We also sing with the girls from the hymnbook (good source of interesting songs from a variety of periods---plus the girls like melismas) and lately they have been putting on little shows. Always surprises the neighbors when two-year olds sing songs with words like replete, repose, pascal victim, etc.

Reading Aloud
Zofie discovered the little black and white book and decided to 'read' it to Linus.

Waking the little man
As though midnight (read 3am) feedings were not hard enough, it is very hard to wake the boy up to eat. The hospital gave us a list of 10 ways to wake a baby and we have tried every one, usually poking the little man from time to time while feeding to keep him alert.

Smooth Ride
Zofie refers to the baby car seat as the 'bouncy seat' and is having a hard time sharing it since she has been using it for her baby these past few weeks. As with many things, Linus is displacing elements of the girls' routine.

What's in a name
Quick before I go to bed tonight, a few notes:Linus: Ok, we just liked it, but it has a nice history: Linus is any of the three sons of Apollo in Roman history. The second Pope (after Peter) was Pope Linus (hard to verify for you sticklers). Linus Pauling (only two-time Nobel prize winner (Chemistry AND Peace). Linus Torvalds (creator of Linux for you geeks). And, of course, Linus van Pelt of Peanuts fame who is the more philosophical/theological character in the series.
Matthias: one of my favorite biblical figures. In a lovely way that things turn out... Matthias is a name we have planned to use for years. It was one of the boy names we had picked out if the twins had been boys... and today, May 14, is the feast day of St. Matthias in the Roman Catholic church.
Linus shares a birthday with quite a few fantastic folk, but best of all, Albert Einstein. Jamestown was founded on this day. Frank Sinatra died on this day. Look the day up in Wikipedia.
