New Chair

100_4337.JPG
Moved the Lazy Boy into the girls room so that we had a chair in there. Maeta crawled up and I got some very cute pics. This one has a face we do not see enough.

Maeta's Little Grin

100_4300.JPG
Maeta is very hesitant with strange men, even her grandfathers. Every once in awhile she gets close and then starts to flirt. I'm sure we will see more of these coy glances as she gets older.

Time for bed little mouse

Three generations of readers. My father and I may have given up sucking our thumbes, but we still like to read before going to sleep.

Things we are thankful for: Books, Cheerios and Coffee

100_4285.JPG
Zofie has taken to climbing up on the 'adult' chairs. Maeta then wants to sit at the table too. On Thanksgiving Day the girlos and I spent a portion of the morning sitting at the table, perusing our books. I drank coffee; they snacked on 'Os'.

My little punk

100_4268.JPG
The girls got into the closet where we keep their outdoor clothes. They each brought me their hats which, I should note, they refuse to leave on their heads when they are outside, and indicated that they wanted to wear them. They marched around the house in hats for the next hour.

With the cousins

100_4240.JPG
The girls' Saint Louis cousins came for a visit and the girls enjoyed having playmates a bit younger and more energetic than their parents.

The sleep of the just

100_4238.JPG
In the permanent slumber party that exists in the girls' room, I am always amazed that they are able to sleep through each others' noise. Often nap-time ends and one baby will be chattering away with the parents during a diaper change while the other sleeps. We do not document it every time, but sometimes it is too cute to pass up.

Morning Reading

100_4221.JPG
100_4224.JPG
One of the nice things about mornings at the Repptian house is that everyone takes time to read. The father reads the newspapers to see what is new in his world, the babies check over their books to see if anything has changed in theirs.

Teaching them to scribble

100_4213.JPG100_4219.JPG
Note the annotated pictures. For some reason I seem to have felt that Zofie would benefit from a written description of how to draw a tree...

Learning to Scribble

100_4217.JPG
Our pediatrician asked if the girls could scribble. Amy and I looked at each other a bit sheepishly, realizing that we had never offered the little ladies a box of crayons. I corrected that immediately.

Nature or nurture?

100_4206.JPG
Since we have to do our little bit of 'loafing' when the girls are asleep, I am fairly certain that Maeta has never seen Amy or me cuddled up in a blanket reading a book. Given our druthers, we would spend at least one morning a week in precisely this pose. So how is it that some children seem to pick an activity naturally that so clearly fits with their parents preferences? Perhaps there is a genetic selection that has been passed down from a group of bookish apes through Amy and me to young Maeta.

Update on the Healthy Babies

We went to the doctor today. Both girls are very healthy and the doctor expressed no concerns about their heath. They each got three more immunizations (including the first of two flu shots) and were very brave little girls. Baby shots are now done and once we get the second flu shot in four weeks, we should be shot-free for a couple years.

Maeta 32.25 inches, 22 lb 15.25oz
Zofie 32.50 inches, 21 lb 9.50oz

Zofie's head is now 47cm around; Maeta's remains 45cm.

Maeta is in the 95th percentile for height and 50th for weight
Zofie is in the 95th percentile for height and 25th for weight.

Milestones:
Zofie is a cuddly girl who wakes up a little grumpy but once energized, is extremely playful and easily bored. She runs and walks, chatters away, but with just a few word ("duck" is one she says with enthusiasm--referring to the somewhat fatty food available at Chinese restaurants, not the action). She climbs the stairs from the ground level to our apartment (3 floors) with no difficulty. During the past couple months Z has become attached to a stuffed bunny--we just ordered a "backup" on line.

When Maeta wakes up she goes from sound asleep to bouncing almost instantly (we undertand "springs-to-life" in new ways here). She loves music and playing with balls. Like her sister, she runs, walks, climbs stairs, chatters away (Maeta has more words than Zofie). M is always on the lookout for dogs which she loves. Although M has not attached herself to any particular stuffed animal, I think this is a strategy: Zofie always has bunny, Maeta tends to have three or four of the neglected others in bed with her.

Pumpkinhead

100_4195.JPG
First, how many times have we said "pumpkin" to these two? Maybe 10. So when I said, "go get your pumpkins" I actually laughed at myself thinking that this would be a meaningless phrase to Z & M. Not at all. Second, asking "is that a hat?" should have been equally absurd until the two started putting the pumpkins on like a little orange Ushanka.
